Tamil Nadu government employees and teachers will receive a 4% increase in dearness allowance from April 1, 2023.
The honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M.K. Stalin, has recently declared a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for government employees, teachers, and pensioners. This retrospective effect will be implemented starting from April 1, and will benefit around 16 lakh employees. The government will have to incur an additional expenditure of Rs 2,366.82 crore due to the hike.
Despite the financial crisis that has been passed on from the previous regime and the Covid-induced dip in revenue earnings, the government has decided to fulfill its promises made to employees. The government believes that this decision is crucial for the welfare of the employees and their families.
As per the announcement, the DA for government staff will increase from 38% to 42%, in line with the central government’s hike. This move by the government is a step towards showing its commitment to employee welfare and fulfilling its promises, despite challenging times.
