Karnataka Public, Restricted, and Bank Holiday List 2023

The Indian state of Karnataka is known for its rich cultural history and lively festivals. There are a lot of public holidays, bank holidays, and holidays that state government workers can’t take. Public Holidays in Karnataka There are many public holidays in Karnataka that are celebrated at different times of the year. These holidays are held to remember important events in the state’s history, like the birth of Tipu Sultan, the man who started the state. Republic Day (January 26), Mahaveer Jayanti (April 17), Independence Day (August 15), and Diwali are all public holidays in Karnataka in 2023. (November 4th). People in Karnataka celebrate these holidays with a lot of excitement and happiness.

The State Government offices remain closed on all 2nd Saturdays, 4th Saturdays, Sundays, and the following days in the table.

Important Note for General Holidays 2023

This list doesn’t include Uttarayana Punyakala, Makara Sankranti Festival (January 15, 2023), Basava Jayanthi/Akshaya Tritiya (April 23, 2023), Naraka Chaturdashi (November 12, 2023), which all happen on Sundays, Mahalaya Amavasya (October 14, 2023) which happens on the Second Saturday, Khutub-E-Ramzan (April 22, 2023), and Maharshi Valmiki Javanthi (

On official holidays, all State government offices will be closed. Still, Heads of Departments will have to make plans so that urgent tasks can be done. If any of the Muslim Fraternity festivals don’t happen on the date that was announced, members of the Muslim Fraternity who work for the government may be given a day off on the day of the celebration, taking into account the days off that have already been announced.

Kodagu District will be closed on Sunday, September 3, 2023, for Kail Muhuruth. On Wednesday, October 18, 2023, for Tula Sankramana, and on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, for the Hurthi Festival. A separate list of holidays will be put out by the Commissioner of Public Instructions for the Education Department.

State Government Employees can use up to two restricted holidays in 2023, in addition to the General Holidays, if they get permission from the authority in charge of Casual Leave.

Restricted Holidays for State Government Employees in Karnataka 2023

Karnataka’s state government also has a list of holidays that can’t be taken off. These holidays are celebrated so that employees can take a break from their regular work and get some much-needed rest. In 2023, Guru Purnima (July 11), Raksha Bandhan (August 21), and Dussehra are some of the holidays that state government employees in Karnataka can’t take off (October 19th). Important Note for Restricted Holidays 2023

This Annexure doesn’t include November Year (January 1, 2023), Devara Dasimayya Jayanthi (March 26, 2023), Vishwakarma Jayanthi (September 17, 2023), Christmas Eve (December 24, 2023), and Holy Saturday (April 8, 2023) because they all happen on the second Saturday.

Souramana Ugadi (April 14, 2023) is not on this list because it is a General Holiday for Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Jayanthi. Swarna Gowri Vrata (September 18, 2023) is also not on this list because it is a General Holiday for Varasiddhi Vinavaka Vrata. Ananta Padmanabha Vrata (September 28, 2023) is also not on this list because it is a General Holiday for Eid

Bank Holidays in Karnataka 2023

Karnataka also has a list of holidays that are always celebrated. These holidays are held so that banks and their workers can take a break from their regular work. Good Friday (April 2), Eid-ul-Fitr (May 13), Ganesh Chaturthi (August 11), and Christmas are all bank holidays in Karnataka in 2023. (December 25th). All the banks in the state celebrate these holidays, which are an important part of how banks work.

Important Note for Bank Holidays 2023

This list does not include Uttarayana Punyakala, Makara Sankranti Festival (15.01.2023), Basava Jayanthi/Akshaya Tritiya (23.04.2023), Naraka Chaturdashi (12.11.2023) on Sundays, Mahalaya Amavasya (14.10.2023) on the second Saturday, Khutub-E-Ramzan (22.04.2023), and Maharshi Valmiki Jayanthi (28.10.2023) on the fourth Saturday.

A holiday has been declared on 1 April 2023 for the closure of Accounts held by Commercial Banks and Co-operative Banks. For Kodagu District only, Local Holidays are to be observed on account of Kail Muhuruth on 3 September 2023 (Sunday), Tula Sankramana on 18 October 2023 (Wednesday), and the Huttari Festival on 28 November 2023 (Tuesday).
