Pay Matrix Level and Basic Pay

In January of 2016, there was a new and updated pay structure for employees of the Central government upon the implementation of the 7th pay commission. The PAY MATRIX table was used to facilitate the pay progression and it was created with the intention of improving transparency. This table has two dimensions, consisting of horizontal hierarchy and vertical basic pay progression that includes 40 different stages. The table stipulates that Level 1 with a starting basic pay of Rs. 18000 is the minimum amount. We’ve made a user-friendly online tool utilizing the same Pay Matrix Table format, allowing you to select your Pay Matrix Level and corresponding basic salary, with immediate results available.

Allowances Paid to Central Govt Employees

Central Government Employees are provided with diverse allowances that are determined by the type of work, the location of posting, and post hierarchy. These allowances comprise HRA, Transport Allowance, and Dearness Allowance. In 2016, the 7th Pay Commission thoroughly evaluated these allowances, and its recommendations were executed from the beginning of that year. Additionally, a committee was established to examine these recommendations for allowances, leading to certain allowances being altered or eliminated. Important allowances such as Children Education Allowance, Leave Travel Concession, and Non-Practicing Allowance are among the many options available to Central Government Employees.

Gross and Take Home Salary Calculation

The gross salary within the Central government is arrived at by combining various allowances such as basic pay, dearness allowance, house rent allowance, transport allowance, and any other relevant additions. On the other hand, the take-home salary refers to the residual amount after all mandatory deductions imposed by both the government and private entities have been subtracted from the total salary.

Important Deductions of Central Govt Employees

There are various deductions that can be made for income tax purposes either monthly or yearly. One example of such a deduction is the TDS, while another one is the CGEGIS subscription which is determined by pay level. There is also a compulsory deduction for either Provident Fund or NPS. In case of obtaining a loan for reasons like medical expenses, festivals, a computer advance, or an HBA, there will be a deduction for monthly installment payments. Finally, the pay slip will reflect deductions for monthly charges such as the Licence fee for government quarters and HRA.

Salary Calculation on Classification of Cities

The location of an employee’s office is a significant factor in determining their pay. Organizations, both in the private and public sectors, take into consideration the city or town classification when calculating an employee’s Housing Rent Allowance (HRA). This allowance, which forms a part of an employee’s basic salary, aims to assist with housing costs. Depending on their location, the HRA percentage ranges from 27% to 9%. Hence, if an employee has a basic salary of Rs. 49,000, the corresponding HRA amount will vary depending on the applicable percentage, which can be either Rs. 13,230, Rs. 8,820, or Rs. 4,410.

How to Use the Salary Calculator

The TEUT Calculator provides a selection of Pay Matrix levels and a dropdown list for basic salaries. To operate the tool, an individual must select their Pay Matrix level and Basic Pay and then click the submit button. The tool will then produce a comprehensive summary of the salary package divided into four sections based on the classification of cities and towns for House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance.
